You will show me the path of life. In Your presence is fullness of joy. At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore. Ps. 16:11

I Like Books

Sometimes you just get lucky with things.
I few days ago I soooo did.
On Freecycle (a site I highly recommend if you like free stuff) this lady had just posted 300 free books. I logged on, saw it and was all over that one.
I replied, got her address and took off, leaving Daddy and Baby behind in my dust.
I don't think she expected one person to take all of them but she was glad to get them out of her hair and I was glad to take them.
When I got home, V just shook his head. He knows me. He doesn't even question it.
So what will I do with 300 books? Especially books most of which I would never read?
Well the first step is to see which ones I do wish to keep. Then sell the ones I don't.
Both steps complete. I kept some for me, posted some on Paperback swap and sold some-for $30. Oh yeah!
There were all kinds of books. Some very old ones, some almost brand new. Some very interesting, some I didn't even want in my house. But overall, well worth free.
Did I mention I sooo heart freecyle? Well, I really really do!

Trusting

Oh, and By the way....

HAPPY FALL YA'LL

Take A Step Back

Yesterday was nothing but hurry hurry and lots to do.
I had a list that was growing instead of shrinking and it seemed that although I worked all day long nothing got checked off the list.
Those of you who know how much pleasure I take in crossing things off my list will understand how frustrating that is for me. I get a great deal of satisfaction from taking my pen and putting a firm straight line through each item. Some days I feel like framing my crossed out list if it's been particularly extensive.
So on yesterday went. About 5 o'clock, just as I had climbed down from the ladder I was on trimming hedges after I had played in the dirt for about an hour, my husband comes downstairs and tells me, "I'll be ready in about an 30 minutes."
I must have given him the most blank look when I answered, "Where are you going?" He gave me an equally blank look equivalent to "Duh!" And said, "Do you know what day it is?"
So apparently no one had informed me it was Wednesday. Church!!!!
I had 30 minutes to
*take a shower and get the dirt, grime and sweat off
*find something to wear and get myself ready
*get Lydia ready to go and diaper bag packed
*find something to eat
*get my husband something to wear (he says he's forgotten how to dress himself)
*somehow get my mind out of task oriented gear and into Bible study mode
I was a little daunted.
I said goodbye to finishing my to-do list and inwardly starting chanting the mantra, "I think I can, I think I can" while fighting the comeback, "Ain't gonna happen."
Well miracles do happen and we made it! I was so impressed with me.
We were only 1 minute late.
In all the rush I sat down in the church seat in a sort of "whoosh".
But as the service started, the songs resonated, the words were food for my soul and during prayer I just fell into Him and let Him soothe my hurried mind.
The message that night was exactly what I needed to hear. I left refreshed and recharged.
Sometimes we get so busy that our focus is placed on things around us.
Our to-do list, our needs, our goals, our task at hand and by the end of the day there isn't much left of us. We look back and think, "How much of the day was spent with God?" In my case, far to often I realize that He hasn't been as close to mind as He should be.
The Bible says "Do all for the glory of God". I need to remind myself that in the midst of the days schedule there is always time to make Him apart of it. To let Him work beside me, to sense that He is with me, and to rejoice in the knowledge that the very fact that I have things to do and the strength to do them is because God has abundantly blessed my life. And that is certainly cause to give Him glory.
I have a house to clean because He has given it.
I have a daughter to chase after because He has given her.
I have a husband to love because He has given him.
I have possessions to clean and care for because He has allowed provision to obtain.
I have food to cook because He has provided.
If I had that mental attitude as I worked throughout my day, could I not help but give Him all the glory?
Moments like last night caused me to step back and reflect. It took me out of my schedule and made me sit and just worship. He took me from being Martha to being Mary. It was like God was calling me from myself and to Himself.
It was just a scheduled Wednesday night service, the regular routine, but it became a moment out of life to just be in Him.
When I left the church I still had things to do. The list was still there. But I approached it differently. I didn't look at it like, Here's more things to do before bed. I did what I could and all the while He energized my work.
I truly believe that sometimes we need to just stop. Stop with the lists, stop with the day and just focus on lasting things. I don't always do that as I should and even my devotional times gets hurried on days I find myself with more list than day.
But the list will be there when I get to it. However time spent in God's presence has lasting effects that will most certainly last longer than a clean house or an empty laundry basket. (Is there such a thing?)
In the end, I can hope two things.
1. This lesson will remain on my mind and I will learn to take a few steps back occasionally.
2. I hope no one saw the fact that in my hurried shower I neglected to scrub hard enough on my little toesies and discovered during song service that my sandals were displaying for all our small group to see, toenails outlined in dirt. Every last one of them. Mercy!

Along Came A Spider...

...and crawled down beside her...
...and promptly got itself smashed.

All day I have been dreaming of 9pm.
Because 9pm is bedtime for Bugaboo and bath time for me.
I really wanted a nice long hot soak tonight. I needed it. I was longing for it.
So as soon as my darling sleeping beauty was off to dreamland I was off to spend a little time with Mr. Bubbles.
However, in all my anticipation, a spider did not figure in.

I had just sunk myself into the wonderfully hot bubbly water when right by my elbow was Charlotte herself. I did not say hi.
I quickly weighed my options.

a. let her crawl around the tub and hope she didn't fall in the water
b. scream and hope Vince heard and would come and save the day
c. jump out of the water and just forget the bath
d. calmly reach over and grab the closest item that would be sufficient to kill. (Vince's dirty sock)

Now you might think that I would have gone for b or c. And I did think about those options. But I finally settled for the more grown up option and remained calm. Totally unlike me when it comes to spiders. See how I've matured?

Let's just not mention what happened on the last spider encounter. (Answer? B) He's my spider killing hero.

Only When You're A Baby

...will people say "what a nice burp" when you burp so loud it sounds like a small explosion.

...is it appropriate to spit your food out if you don't like it.

...will people get by with looking at you in shorts and saying "look at those cute chubby thighs". And then pinching them.

...is it cute to have fat rolls at all.

...will people clap and laugh when you poop.

...will people not care when you puke all over them.

...is it okay to fart really loudly in public.

...can you throw a fit in stores and they won't call security.

...is it appropriate to bite on anything and anyone.

Sing, Little Bug, Sing!

One of my favorite summer things is the close of the day. As the scorching sun fades away the sky begins to darken, the warm air settles in around you, and the night is suddenly filled with the song of crickets and cicadas.
To me it is a song that comforts.
It's a sound that transports me back in time to summers as a kid.
Summers spent laying in bed, looking out the window at the stars twinkling in the clear night sky and feeling content, happy and that all is well in my little world.
And as August rolls around every year it also brings to mind campmeeting evenings.
Sitting in the open tabernacle, watching the evening fade to night, listening to the sound of preaching, praying, singing and praising God mix with the outside symphony of nature's song that sounded so loud and strong you just knew that even the bugs were praising God.
As a young child the sounds of the night service, the warm air and the bugs would lull me to sleep on a church pew. As I got older the sounds were such a sweet part of the August night and all that camp was to me as a child and teenager that even now, on August nights when the crickets start singing I go there in my mind.
I don't get to experience Kansas summer nights much anymore but they are a sweet memory that comes back with the first note of a bugs nightly concert.
On Facebook this year there have been a few pictures of August camp. Although I was back in Kansas during that time, I didn't go. Part of me regrets that. But the pictures were nice. There was, however, one picture that represents another sound that is associated with that camp. Not only to me but to many others also.

Oh man does that bell bring back some memories. I can hear it ringing even now. What a sweet sound to my ears. That bell that rings to let you know it's time for church or time to eat. That bell that is a huge part of campmeeting.
Margaret Hollenbeck took this picture and posted it on facebook. Underneath she wrote

"Love this bell ; first heard it's ring when I was 13 years old! Love the
continuity and connectivity it represents in my life as it has rung for my
children and grandchildren as well!God bless this hallowed ground and the
memories of all who have gone on! Thanking God here for His blessings and the
Roots that go deep on this campground!"

Yeah, that bell does represent a lot.

Sounds can take us back and I'm so thankful that God has given me a heritage that I can look back on and know that it is full of happiness and contentment and the training of God's word. I'm glad that God gave me a childhood that was blessed by so many wonderful moments, simple joys and feelings of peace. How very sad that so few people can look back and say that about where they came from. How funny it is that my childhood comes creeping back to mind at the sound of bugs. :)
How much I pray that Lydia will always have those same simple joys of summer nights filled with nature's lullaby and sweet dreams and the pleasure of falling asleep on wooden church pews in the summer night, drifting off to the sound of God's message being told and staring up at stars that wink back.

So sing on little bug, sing on!

It Can't Be...No Way!

Hear that? That's the sound of 2010 whooshing by.
The calendar keeps telling me it's August. I'm struggling to believe that.
Is it true? Have I missed summer again?
I can't tell you how my mind starts whirling everytime I hear someone spout off about "back to school" or "last few weeks of summer".
I'm in denial here.
Not so much in the fact that summer is over because it would be nice to have a break from the heat but more in the fact that it's AUGUST! Wasn't it just March? Where does time go?
The Bible speaks about redeeming the time. I need to redeem some of 2010. Okay, a lot of it.
At the first of each year my prayer is always, "Lord, help me live it for you". At the end of each year I try to think back and hope that there has been growth (and not just in my waistline), maturity and moments that counted for Christ. Things that are eternal.
So with it being August, I need to take the time and evaluate. How's the year been going? What am I gonna do with it before its gone? Have I been living it for Him? Have I been redeeming my time wisely?
Come to think about it, maybe I should be doing this more often than when I see the calender moving ever so quickly toward the end of the year.
So, What about you? How's your year been?

In Pursuit

From girlhood we dream of love.
We dream of the day a man will come into our world, desiring us so much he will go to great links to win our heart. He will pursue us until we have no choice but to fall into his arms in sweet romantic surrender.
We wait for this with great anticipation and Hollywood only fuels the dream.
But far greater than any earthly love is the pursuit that the Divine Lover has for each of us.
Most of us don't think about God as pursuing us but He does! He has, since the beginning.
His pursuit started in Genesis and the theme of that pursuing weaves its way through the entire Bible. It is a pursuit that takes Him from His heavenly kingdom to our earthly realm where His relentless journey would lead Him to a cross. He was so determined to gain a relationship with us that He would not be stopped whatever the cost.
In the beginning the love story was sweet. We had precious fellowship and intimacy. But sin entered and the relationship was damaged. This hurt the very heart of God and He was not willing to let that be the end. From the point sin entered, God began His plan to win us back.
From the very first sin, God called us back to Himself.
Gen 3:6 recounts the fall. The beginning of humanities sin. But two verses later God begins the pursuit that He is still continuing today. Read verse 8-9. It says,

"And they heard the sound of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God among the trees of the garden.
Then the LORD God called to Adam and said to him, “Where are you?”

When I read these verses I can almost hear the sadness in God's voice. He comes as always to meet them and sees that there is something wrong and He cries out to them, "Where are you?"
That question could still be asked of humanity today as we travel paths so far from the God who loves us and yearns for the restored intimacy with the people He loves.
For so long, even if I knew better, I thought of God's love as a more universal thing. He loves us as a whole, as a church. I grew up being taught God loves ME but I don't think I really understood that. But God isn't just in pursuit of the church as a whole. He's in pursuit of ME. Of YOU.
In Luke, Jesus tells a parable of a sheep that is lost. He has 99 sheep safe and sound in the fold but there is one that is missing and He won't rest until that one is safe in His arms as well. He knows us personally and when we aren't with Him even if others are, He will do what it takes to get every individual back with Him because He loves us individually and wants each one of us to be near Him. His pursuit is very personal.
2 Peter 3:9 says "The Lord is...not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance"
He wants us as individuals and He will pursue us as such.
I don't know about you, but knowing that GOD HIMSELF is pursuing ME is overwhelming and wonderful and almost more than I can wrap my brain around.
God's love for ME, for YOU took Him from Heaven, to a cross, to a tomb and back to Heaven where He awaits the day when His pursuit will finally be ended. He will make one final call on a heavenly trumpet and all those that have heeded His love's call will be caught up in the air with Him and we will spend eternity with Him in a place that He has prepared for us, His bride, His love.

Going Green

I have the most darling pair of bright green capris.
I bought them at a thrift store when I was pregnant thinking that come this summer I would be a size 6 again and I could get into them.
Then reality hit.
Summer has come and I can't seem to fit my post prego bod into them. Okay, I can get them up over my hips and maybe even get them buttoned but just because you can get yourself squeezed into something doesn't mean you should wear it in public. (Words of advice I would like to give a few ppl I've seen in public. Really people!)
So they sit in my closet taunting me. I really want to wear these.
So I'm ramping up my dieting.
Up until now I've just been moseying along. Purposely leaving behind some foods but not really trying. I was slowly losing it (the weight ya'll, the weight) but just not quickly. I was okay with that.
And then, while digging around in my "yeah right" box of clothes, I found my capris. And I want them. I want them on my body. I want to wear them in public so I can say, "Look at the cute little green capris I have. Don't you wish you had a pair as cute?"
So off to the salad races I go.
Now, I'm not a dieter. I can't do it. You put the word diet in my head and instead of doing things smart, I just stop eating, stupidly thinking that'll get it off. WRONG!
I tend to go overboard on things.
But this time I'm going to do things smart. I promise you. I promise me.
I have a goal now and I'm thinking of pasting those capris on my refrigerator. That might not be a bad idea.
But anyway- Ready, set, DIET!
I will do this. I will not mosey but I will not be stupid about it.
I will get r done.
And the winning prize- fitting myself into the cutest little green capris you ever did see and not looking like a squeezed lime while wearing them.

FYI-For added accountability I have placed a weight countdown thingy on the bottom of this blog. Okay it's been there for awhile but it's been ticking down awfully slow.
I plan to start making that little lady bug move it's spots.

So Cute!

Something to make you go awww (and not hmmm)

Just A Side Note:
Since I found a video to publish I might shoulda left the last post in my head.
But I'm leaving it up just to give ya'll more evidence that I'm a little strange and random sometimes. :)
It'll also let you inside my head when there's not a lot else rolling around up there.
It's scary to be me some days. :) :)

Hmmmm...

I really need to post something. I know I've neglected this poor blog.
It's not for lack of want or even opportunity. It's lack of brain.
I have nothing to write about. No bright thoughts that will amaze and inspire you.
I just sit here and go hmmmm, what to write about. No idea.
So I just let it sit here. Mocking my empty thoughts.
But it's getting to me folks.
You see, I'm slightly addicted to this blog. I take joy in posting things and making my blog something to be enjoyed. So these big gaps in posting dates are not something I like.
So because I have had it with looking at the Father's Day post I am posting something. ANYTHING!
(Yeah, the OCD blogging thing is quiet strange and it's the little things in life that bring my OCD to a head but now you know.)
But, since I'm still sorely lacking words I'm just going to ramble on and on (and on) and you can just stop reading anytime because I warn you, it could get dull.
So what am I most thinking about today?
Baby oil actually. At least for the moment.
Now before you think I've gone off the deep end and are trying to figure how I can ramble on about Baby oil I'll tell you. The only thing I'm going to say on the subject is. I LOVE BABY OIL.
It's way better than lotion and when your hands get as dry as mine do it's nice to have something that works. So having just applied some I'm sitting here typing thinking "my hands feel nice and look so much better". Not to mention the fact that my keyboard is now sporting oil smears on the keys. Oh well, they'll dry. It says fast absorbing on the bottle.
Okay, done with that.
(I warned you)
I can see you, Lee, you're rolling your eyes right about now.
So to make this post worthwhile so you aren't going hmmmm by the end (if you are still reading this)
I am going to save you money.
See, reading my blog is sooo worthwhile.
In case you haven't noticed, on the left hand side of my blog there is a newish section devoted to $ saving websites. I heart them.
I look at these websites if not every day, most days. Why? Because they really do save money.
There are coupons and codes and freebies and ideas to make your own stuff or make junk look good instructions or just about anything. This is good for me.
I am gaining another OCD habit of making it a challenge within myself to see how much money I can save a week. It's actully fun and my husband is sooo behind that one.
I highly recommend you check them out. Seriously. Go. Now.
You're still here? Well, if you are, try these websites out as well.
I use them often for things I need or never knew I needed but once I found it I though, this is cheap and I could do such and such with it and now I have it and I love it.
These sites are craigslist and freecycle.
They are wonderful. I heart them.

There you go. From baby oil to $ saving tips. All in one post.
Now scratch your head, wonder at my sanity, walk away and say hmmm....
