A Pie In The Sky

I was on my way to meet one of the ladies from church this morning so we could go walking when I heard a very intereting story on the radio.
They were talking about a new dinner concept that has become popular with the "have more money than sense" population of parts of Europe and Asia.
It's called "Dinner In The Sky" and the basic concept is that you pay bucket loads of money to eat your dinner hundreds of feet in the air. You sit around a table and after you are buckled in you are lifted by crane into the air where your meal is cooked and served.
You can be in the air for up to 8 hours and can request another crane that will lift a platform with a band or such for your entertaining pleasure.
Now my first thought is why would you want to spend 8 hours strapped to a seat dangling above the trees and my second thought is, who on earth would do that?
I think I heard that it costs close to $12,000, not including the food. Wow.
Anyway, if you wanna check out the website to see what rich people are spending their money on these days go here. Make sure you check out the pictures section. It's rather neat but very strange.

Easter Week Happenings

We had a very special passion week.
The first half of the week was spent in practice for the Easter program. Since Easter was so early this year and there were other church happenings we didn't have as much time to practice for the program as usual so the last week or so was pretty much a cram session. How come that always seems to happen?
Thursday evening we had a Passover Meal at the church with all of the Jewish elements. It was a delicious meal and everyone who worked on the meal did a lovely job. We watched a movie while we were eating about what all the parts of the Sader meal meant. It was amazing and very touching.
Friday afternoon was the Good Friday service. I would like to tell you about that but Vince would have to because I was sick. Vince was nice enough to share the cold he had with me. I regretted not being able to go but Vince said it was very nice.
On Easter Morning we had to be at the church early because the ensembles were meeting to do last minute touch-ups. Since I got roped into being a part of all three ensembles I had to be there. (Thanks, Tim!)
We had a Resurrection breakfast before the program. Boy do church people love to eat! There was so much food but all of it very good. We have some really good cooks at our church!
The program went really well and we were so glad to be a part of it. Vince was really happy to play his french horn again in the orchestra. He doesn't get to play nearly enough. Of course he did a great job.
After church, Vince went off to work and I went to a friends house for the afternoon. Her husband had abandoned her for ice-fishing so we curled up on the couch in our comfy clothes and watched chick-flicks and drank coffee. Lovely way to spend the afternoon, I say.
So that's pretty much the recap. It was all very memorable and sweet.
What a blessing to be able to get together with your family in Christ to celebrate the foundation of what binds you together. To pause and reflect on what Christ has done and to rejoice in the freedom we have because of His sacrifice. Thank you, Jesus!

Airhead Moments

There are few of you who will appreciate this more than others (LeAnn!) but I thought I would let you in on what an airhead I can be. Didn't know that one did ya?
So this morning I was putting on my face moisturizer and I had it all smeared on my face when I realized how funny it felt. It had felt the same way yesterday when I was getting ready for church but today I really noticed it. It wasn't blending well and felt more greasy than it should. So after a few perplexed moments I looked down and realized I had been putting hair gel all over my face.
The sad part is that I actually used the hair gel as moisturizer for church Easter Sunday when we were doing our Easter program. On the up side, my make-up went on very smoothly. Maybe I unwittingly came up with a new idea. Or maybe not.
In my defense the two bottles are almost identical and when you aren't really paying attention to what you're doing it was a easy mistake to make. Right?

Easter Blessings

Out from the tomb He came with grace and majesty;
He is alive, He is alive.
God loves us so, see here His hands, His feet, His side
Yes we know, He is alive.

Our God reigns! Our God reigns!
Our God reigns! Our God reigns!

To Make The Heart Smile

These flowers were given to me earlier in the month by a friend from church. We had been talking about our desire for Spring to arrive and how tired we were of the gloomy days. Okay, we were whining.
That same day she showed up at a party we were having at the church and presented me with these just to brighten my day and make my heart smile. Well, it sure did!
The flowers are gone now but I thought I would pass the encouragement of those flowers on to you, via the internet. I hope they make your heart smile and remind you that as long as we have caring friends in our lives, we always have a bright spot even in the gloomiest of days.
Thanks Jenny!

Where I've been

I know I haven't exactly been diligent in blogging this month. I guess it's because there hasn't been to much going on. We've been busy with all the little tasks that keep on coming and Vince has been working a lot but that's really been the extent of our month.
I will try to post a quick outline of all our Easter celebrations early next week.

Spring is Springin' ?

Well apparently Spring is here, but from the forecast for tonight and tomorrow you would never know it. But since it is now Spring according to the calendar, I'll wish you...

I have great hopes that Spring will one day show up here and once for all banish the white stuff (at least for a few months).
At least there are rays of hope on the horizon. Birds are beginning to sing their song and if you look hard enough you may even see a little bit of green trying to peek through.
This girl has never thought green to be a more beautiful color or the chirping of a bird sound so sweet.

Winter Blues

I found this all to true cartoon of a Michigan winter on a fellow Michiganians blog. Seems like I'm not the only one dreaming of Spring. She had also posted this poem that I thought was too cute.

It's winter in Michigan
And the gentle breezes blow
Seventy miles an hour
At twenty-five below.
Oh, how I love Michigan
When the snow's up to your butt
You take a breath of winter
And your nose gets frozen shut.
Yes, the weather here is wonderful
So I guess I'll hang around
I could never leave Michigan
'Cause I'm frozen to the ground!

Kansas Girl At Heart

I've spent the last few days in Kansas/Oklahoma. I got here the 22nd and will be flying home tomorrow. It's been a nice trip but I think I'm ready to go home. Vince has been working almost the whole time and we'll get to the Detroit airport tomorrow about the same time. Then we get two days together before he does a four day trip. I bet he's as ready to be home as I am, probably more.
The second night I was here I was able to see Vince and spend the night with him in Tulsa during his long layover there. We drove to Bartlesville the next day so he could spend a few hours with everyone before I took him back to Tulsa so he could fly away.
The weather here has been amazing. In the 50's and 60's. To think I'll be going home to 20 degrees and snow kinda makes me whimper but when I get in my nice cozy home again I'll be fine.
I've spent most of my days here going between Kansas and Oklahoma. I've done a lot of driving. That's okay though because seeing my family's beautiful faces makes it worth it.
While I was here my grandma and mom taught me how to crochet. I should have learned how to do that a long time ago but before now, never had a desire to learn. Some of the church ladies do it and I thought, "Hey, I could do that!", so I gave in to peer pressure and asked grandma and mom to teach me. It's going well and I'm enjoying it. I'm working on my first patterned piece now. It's a heart hanging thingy. I'll post a pick once it's completed.
Well, it's getting late and we have to leave early in the morning to get me to Tulsa. We are leaving a tad earlier so I can give my grandparents a hug and then do some shopping. Then it's off, off and away!

Valentine's Week

We had a really fun Valentine's week. On Valentine's day we celebrated at home. We didn't go out because we knew the rest of the week would be full. The only real thing of note was the wedding we attended that evening at our church. What a sweet day to get married!
As promised though, here is a picture of part of my breakfast in bed. I thought it was so pretty! Yeah, I gotta brag on him.

Ok, so then on Friday Vince surprised me with a lunch at Olive Garden. We haven't gone there in a very long time so it tasted wonderful. I love their soup, salad and breadsticks.
Then that evening we met Kim and Ray at their house in Monroe and went to a "Be The Miracle" concert. We saw Mark Lowry, LordSong and the Perry's. It was great fun. We laughed and cried and praised God. Now that's a good way to spend an evening.
For the grand finale of Valentine's week, on Saturday evening we had a Valentine's dinner sponsered by our church at Dolce Vita, a romantic Italian restaurant in Monroe. The food was good, the fellowship was sweet and the fun was abundant.
Here are some pictures of the event.

Love Is In The Air

Yesterday evening I put some of my favorite quotes, poems and Bible verses that I had collected over time on my blog Following After. Since this is a day to celebrate love I thought it would be a good reminder to focus on God's love as well as human love.
You can view that blog entry here.

We have had a nice Valentine's Day so far. Vince brought me breakfest in bed and has a few other things up his sleeve that he hasn't revealed yet. We are going to a wedding later tonight.
I'll upload some pics of my breakfest as well as some other things later.
